Academic Decathlon is a premier academic competition where each team must consist of three “A” students, three “B” students, and three “C” students.
The tests cover a depth of knowledge in each of the following categories – art, music, math, literature, economics, science, and social sciences.
In addition the students must write an essay, give a speech and be interviewed. This year’s topic was the Great Depression. The team members studied everything from the causes of the Dust Bowl to the symbolism in John Steinbeck’s Grapes of Wrath.
Medals are awarded to individuals based on his or her scores. In addition, Dan Brown’s high overall scores helped lead Chardon to place 3rd in Essay and 3rd in Math as a team at state competition.
