19-20 Scheduling Information

Questions regarding scheduling for current 7th graders should be directed to Mr. Kyle Kovach, 8th grade Counselor at Chardon High School at  Information is HERE regarding CCP classes. HERE is the link to the CHS Program of Studies. This contains descriptions of courses to help parents and students understand what each course is about. HERE is the link to the descriptions of the Circuit of Success.

For current 5th and 6th grade students, school counselors have visited your child’s classes and elective requests have been submitted.  Per the e-mails that were sent to grade-specific groups, and that can be found HERE on the CMS Guidance website, students and parents were encouraged to review the presentations and video course descriptions together and discuss those options prior to submitting.  Parents will have the opportunity to sign-off on these requests before student schedules are finalized.

Current 4th graders should be thinking about their music selection of band or choir for next year.  There will be an “instrument try-out night” for those interested in band to see, learn about and trial various instrument options for 5th grade band.

Students in grades 4, 5, and 6 will be automatically placed in appropriate academic classes based on established criteria.

Math Acceleration Opportunity

Chardon Local Schools is committed to continuing to give students opportunities to challenge themselves and their learning and invites students currently enrolled in 5th, 6th or 7th grade to consider their current math placement.  We will be offering a summer learning opportunity for students to voluntarily complete a hybrid (both online and in-person) course, with a “final exam” taken the last week of July. Students who successfully pass the test will be placed in the next level math course for the 19-20 academic year.  This opportunity is open to ALL students. This is also an opportunity for students who are in the single accelerated 5th (mat510) or 6th grade (mat610) math track to attempt to move to the double accelerated track. It is our goal that this will limit the need for students to “double up” on math classes in high school in order to access higher level classes.  Click HERE to be added to the list to receive more information as it becomes available and for a personal invite to the information night to be held in April.

** students who scored above the 95%ile on the MAP or an average of 120 on the nonverbal and quantitative subtests of the CogAT benchmarks will automatically be invited to participate in this experience.  Additional information will be provided directly to those students and families as it pertains to them.

The Ohio AIR tests, while only one data point in time, are the most public measure of schools’ effectiveness and student learning.  We ask that you please do everything possible to be sure that your child is in attendance on the following days:

  • April 16 & 17:  ELA (all grades)

  • April 24 & 25:  5th Grade Science

  • May 1 & 2:  Math (all grades)

At the beginning of the year, all students were provided earbuds and ODE-approved calculators for students in grades 6, 7 and those taking 5th grade accelerated math.  Recently we have noticed that many students do not have these items with them in class. Please talk with your child and make sure that they have earbuds / headphones and an approved calculator daily in all classes.
