Welcome to Topper Talk, our “rumor control” blog, where school officials will answer questions and concerns that are circulating outside school walls. "We consider this blog an opportunity for the community to have an open door to the schools," said Ellen Ondrey, District Communications Coordinator.
Schools typically use websites and newsletters to share information. But other Internet-based tools, such as texting, Facebook and Twitter, have made it easier for misinformation to quickly spread before school officials can respond.
"It's that immediacy of the technology now," said Ondrey "With personal blogs, Facebook, and online comments to news articles, people have the opportunity to say whatever they want. That makes it challenging for us to ensure an accurate story is being told. Because of this, we've created an online forum as a central location where parents and community members can get answers."
School officials will review each entry before posting questions and answers. The district will respond to the questions it can. Districts are legally prohibited from discussing personnel issues or student-sensitive cases.
