Beyond the Hilltop: Anthony Raines Earn Eagle Scout Ranking
Service Project Gives Back to St. Luke Episcopal Church
June 28, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) —ANTHONY RAINES, of the Chardon High School Class of 2024 and a member of Boy Scouts of America scout since the 2nd-grade, was recognized by the Chardon Board of Education at the June 17 regular board meeting for his recent attainment of the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the highest achievement in Boy Scouts.
Anthony earned Eagle Scout ranking on May 18 as a member of Munson Troop #91 led by Scoutmaster Jason Soncrant. The Hilltopper's achievements also included earning 30 merit badges, surpassing the 21-badge requirement for Eagle Scout ranking. Through his badgework, he pursued a wide range of interests, including motor boating, rifle shooting, paper-making, plumbing, chess, archery and kayaking.
For his Eagle Scout initiative, Anthony served as project manager under the mentorship of Troop #91 Assistant Scoutmaster Chris May and invested over 90 hours to plan and install driveway lighting, marquee illumination, and a landscaping fence at St. Luke Episcopal Church in Munson.
[Fun Fact: Mr. May, who is also the Business Affairs Supervisor for Chardon Schools, is from a family of multiple generations of Eagle Scouts! He has mentored many local boy scouts, including Hilltoppers.]

Key to the success of Anthony’s project for St. Luke was also his collaboration with the church pastor, Chris McMann.
Additionally, the project provided Anthony with opportunities to fundraise in the community. He reached out to local stores and received material donations from Home Depot in Chardon and Lowe’s in Mentor. Family, friends, Troop #91 leadership and fellow scouts contributed to the project as well.

Also notable, Payne and Tompkins Design-Renovations made a large monetary donation to help wrap up Anthony’s fundraising efforts.
Next up, Anthony will celebrate with a ceremony in the fall. Already, he has been thanked for his work during a community breakfast at St. Luke.
Congratulations Anthony!
