Four Chardon Businesses Named to OSBA Business Honor Roll '24
Community Connections Build Stronger Schools

June 18, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) —  Out of an abundance of gratitude, the Chardon Board of Education was pleased to nominate four organizations to the Ohio School Boards Association's Business Honor Roll 2024 this spring. The OSBA Business Honor Roll provides Ohio's public school districts the opportunity each school year to showcase up to four organizations that have demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the schools.

Nominating local businesses for this prestigious distinction is an annual tradition of Chardon Schools. The District's 2024 nominees were honored at the June 17 regular Board meeting and are as follows:

Dumpster Bandit, LLC
Chardon, OH
Award presented to Caitlyn and Mark Horvath, Owners
Dumpster Bandit, a family-owned business specializing in curbside trash pickup and recycling collection, is a regular supporter of Chardon Schools. The business donated $1,000 to the Chardon Middle School teacher wish list this past school year. This generous donation will help to purchase a sublimation printer and cricut supplies for the school's digital media classes. Dumpster Bandit also volunteered as one of 30+ career speakers for the Grades 1-3 Careers on Wheels event this spring.

Heinen's, Inc.
Chardon, OH Location
Award presented to Justin Wehr, Chardon Store Manager
Community initiatives of family-owned grocery store Heinen’s - Chardon include serving as a job training site for a county vocational program. Through this program, Heinen’s - Chardon has hosted many of our Hilltopper students with disabilities, providing on-the-job skills learning and experience in support of future readiness.

Hornyak Farms, LLC
Chardon, OH
Award presented to the Hornyak Family — Leigh, Matthew, Kate and Evan
Hornyak Farms is a family-owned farm specializing in agricultural tourism. Among its initiatives supporting Chardon Schools was the Fall Fun Festival hosted for Park Elementary families this past September, providing an evening of social activities - free of admission - for students and their families.

Mihalic Associates & Auctioneers, LLC
Chardon, OH
Award presented to Scott Mihalic, Owner
Mihalic Associates & Auctioneers is an equipment auctioneer and appraiser that supported Chardon Schools this school year via a $3,000 donation to the Jeremy's Kids holiday gift drive facilitated by the CHS Actively Caring for People student club. The donation significantly assisted the initiative’s ability to fulfill gift wish lists for local families in need, thereby also supporting the service efforts of our students.
