Sept. 28, 2021 —The Chardon Local School District is saddened to learn of the Sept. 23 passing of faculty member Carla Nuti and wishes to express heartfelt condolences to her family and friends who are sharing in this tremendous loss.

Known as Ms. Pearson to Hilltopper students and staff, she was a second-grade teacher at Park Elementary School. Ms. Pearson had a 22-year teaching career, of which 20 years were with the Chardon Local School District plus an additional year as a Title I tutor for Chardon Schools. She also subbed extensively for the district for several years.

“Ms. Pearson was a dedicated staff member serving the Hilltopper school community for many years,” said Superintendent Mike Hanlon. “The loss of Ms. Pearson will certainly be felt in our classrooms among both students and staff. Our thoughts are with her family at this difficult time.”

Together with staff members, Park Elementary principal Rhonda Garrett said they plan to have a private memorial breakfast at a later date to gather together as colleagues in the celebration of Ms. Pearson’s life.

"Remembering a special Park teacher, Ms. Pearson, and all her efforts over the past 20 years," wrote Miss Garrett on the school's Twitter page on Sept. 27. "She touched many lives and had a very caring heart for others. Rest in peace."

In a March 2020 questionnaire for a district newsletter feature story, Ms. Pearson said she enjoyed the good rapport she had with students.

"I love watching my students develop in knowledge from the first day they join my classroom to the last day when they move on to third grade,” she added.

Many school community members, including district parents and guardians, expressed condolences and memories of Ms. Pearson on the district's Facebook memorial post for her during the week of Sept. 27.

"So very sad to hear this," wrote Chardon resident and district parent Jennifer Zargari on Sept. 27. "She was my daughter’s favorite and she was so kind and fun. Children loved her! May God grant her peace and her family know how truly special her place in this world was."
