March 29, 2022 — Chardon Schools is pleased to announce that the spring 2022 windows replacement project at Chardon Middle School is underway as of yesterday.

This project is one of 11 districtwide facilities undertakings outlined by our assistant superintendent of business affairs, Mr. Steven Kofol, in his spring/summer 2022 projects presentation to the public at the February 22 regular board meeting.

PROJECT DETAILS
Removal of ALL current windows; and installation of 29 new windows and 10 new curtainwalls.

SCOPE
Project represents full windows replacement for the entire building — both first- and second-floor windows.

WHY REPLACEMENT?
The current windows are the building's originals (CMS was built in 1965; building additions constructed in 1974). Among the many issues with the aging windows are:

  • single-pane glass (energy inefficiency)
  • broken hardware
  • very few have screens
  • some windows do not open
  • some windows have leaks
ESTIMATED COST of PROJECT
Approximately $370K

FUNDS EARMARKED for PROJECT
ESSER (Federal) Funds

CLASSES in SESSION DURING PROJECT?
Yes. To ensure CMS class instruction is not interrupted during window removal and installation, the school is shifting instruction in two to four classrooms (per day) to other areas of the building.

NOTES of GRATITUDE
Thank you to Mr. Kofol and to treasurer/CFO Mrs. Deb Armbruster for their diligent efforts in planning for this capital improvement project.

Thank you also to CMS principal Mr. Velotta and CMS assistant principal Ms. Paroubek for their planning efforts to accommodate the project and to our teaching staff and students for their flexibility during this time.
