November 9, 2022 — Chardon Schools is pleased to announce that on October 17, 2022 it was named one of 25 school districts and community schools to receive $200,000 each to support costs associated with the Ohio Department of Education's Reaching All Students Through Language and Literacy project. The awarded funding includes such expenses as stipends, travel and substitute teachers.

This initiative to support Ohio’s students is a key part of Future Forward Ohio, the State’s strategic priorities to help students recover from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with a focus on students who experienced the greatest disruptions to learning.

These groups include students of color, English learners, and students from rural regions of Ohio. The project will focus on improving literacy instruction by drawing on structured literacy approaches along with strategies to improve instruction for the groups listed above.

Strategies will include understanding language and dialect in the classroom, family and community engagement, and drawing on and building students' background knowledge and vocabulary to improve reading outcomes.
