District Awarded Nearly $500K in School Safety Grants

February 23, 2023 — Chardon Local Schools is pleased to announce it is the recipient of nearly $500K in school safety grants for safety enhancements in all five school buildings. The grants were awarded over the course of six months through two separate rounds of the Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant Program.

  • $143,334 - awarded to Chardon Schools in August 2022 (Round 2)
  • $356,665 - awarded to Chardon Schools in February 2023 (Round 4)
Chardon Schools Superintendent Dr. Michael P. Hanlon, Jr. stated, “Chardon Schools is the program’s largest grant recipient in Geauga County. The additional funding awarded this month will be used to continue initiatives started with the initial grant, including ongoing replacements of door locks, construction of a security vestibule at Chardon Middle School, upgrades to public address/radio systems, and other enhancements.”

The Ohio K-12 School Safety Grant Program, launched by Governor DeWine in 2021, is administered by the Ohio Facilities Construction Commission in partnership with the Ohio School Safety Center.
