Dear Hilltopper Community,

I want to recognize the outstanding emergency responsiveness exemplified by Park Elementary cafeteria monitor Kristy Holbert on Jan. 24.

In the course of her work in the student cafeteria that day, Kristy took action when a student suddenly appeared to be in distress as he was eating his lunch. Upon closer evaluation and attempts to communicate with the student, Kristy determined the student was choking.

Kristy responded to the student swiftly and professionally, administering the Heimlich maneuver with complete success.

Her confident and responsive application of departmental emergency training made an invaluable difference in this student's life that day.

I commend her for her excellence and courage, demonstrating a commitment to our highest priority — the safety and wellness of Hilltoppers.

The Chardon Board of Education will formally recognize Kristy at the Tuesday, Feb. 21, regular board meeting.
