Overview
The five-member Board of Education, elected to reflect the will of the community, is committed to providing the District's children with an exceptional educational opportunity.  

  • Elected by non-partisan ballot, each serving a four-year term.
  • Functions as a policy-making body according to the mandates of state law.
  • Represents the State of Ohio and the citizens of the Chardon Schools on all matters and decisions dealing with public education and in some matters concerning services for non-public school students.
  • Determines the goals and priorities of the school district.
  • Authorizes the appointment of the superintendent, treasurer, teachers and other staff members.
A provision is made in each regular meeting agenda for the board to hear from public attendees (who reside in the Chardon Local School District or are a business owner in the District) wishing to speak on matters pertinent to the education of students in our schools. We welcome and encourage your participation.

*A board member's elected term is a 4-year term and runs according to calendar year — beginning on January 1st after the November election and continuing through December 31st of the fourth year served. In alignment with that timing, the Board member names and bios linked on this page are updated on January 1st after the November election to reflect any effective changes to the Board. 

Newly elected Board members are officially sworn in at the Board's annual organizational meeting held in the January after the election. The date and time of the annual organizational meeting is traditionally established by the Board during the December regular meeting, while the remainder of the Board's 2024 regular meeting dates are approved by the Board at the January organizational meeting. As the meeting dates and times are approved, those details are posted to this page.


2024 Meetings

All regular BOE meetings are generally held on the third Monday of each month at 6:30 PM (unless otherwise noted). For example, January's meeting is the third Tuesday due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.

Sessions are traditionally held in the Board of Education meeting room at 428 North Street. Meetings may at times be held at other school buildings in the District in which case the meeting location will be noted below.
