Human Trafficking Awareness and Prevention Lesson
A Chardon SRO Presentation & Hands-On with The SOAP Project

April 20, 2024 (CHARDON, OH) — Chardon High School’s CREW career-based program hosted Chardon School Resource Officer Jasen Elam in the classroom on April 12 wherein SRO Elam presented on human trafficking awareness and prevention. The District's SRO is dedicated to Chardon Schools students in a myriad of ways, including the provision of educational safety presentations such as this one.

Following SRO Elam's presentation, CREW students collaborated on-site in a service task in support of a non-profit that advocates for human trafficking awareness and prevention. CREW members attached National Human Trafficking Hotline labels to each packet of a 1,000-count case of travel-sized soap bars provided by The SOAP Project.

The SOAP Project is a national organization whose mission is to end human trafficking by:

  • Mobilizing communities
  • Providing prevention education and advocacy
  • Facilitating restorative experiences for survivors

According to The SOAP Project's website, it only takes approximately 45 minutes for six volunteers to label 1,000 bars of soap. Hotline-labeled soap packets are handed out at local hotels by The SOAP Project volunteers working together in teams, providing recipients with a resource in the event they are being held against their will.

According to The SOAP Project's website, since its founding, the non-profit has hand-distributed over two million labeled bars of soap and assisted in rescuing many victims.
