New Board Members Andrea Clark and James Midyette
on the Professional Development Circuit
January 31, 2024 — The Chardon Local Schools Board of Education's newly elected members — Andrea Clark and James Midyette — have hit the ground running in professional development since their Nov. 7 election to the BOE, exemplifying the Portrait of a Hilltopper traits of Commitment and Continuous Learning.
OSBA BOARD 101
Mrs. Clark's and Mr. Midyette's most recent pursuits of professional development have included participation in the Ohio School Boards Association's Board 101 series in Cleveland on Jan. 27-28.
This two-day program provided sessions on governance, collaboration, legal parameters, parliamentary procedure, meeting management, policy management, legislative understanding, district advocacy and school financing.
The OSBA Board 101 program is designed to allow new board members to ask questions, network with others and discover the many resources OSBA offers to district members.
CHARDON SCHOOLS ORIENTATION SESSION
In Chardon Schools, Superintendent Mike Hanlon and Treasurer/CFO Deb Armbruster provided a new member orientation session on Dec. 27 for Mrs. Clark and Mr. Midyette with Chardon BOE member Mrs. Karen Blankenship in attendance as well.
OSBA CAPITAL CONFERENCE & TRADE SHOW
Additionally, Mrs. Clark and Mr. Midyette attended OSBA's 2023 Capital Conference and Trade Show in Columbus on Nov. 12-14. This event is Ohio’s premier professional development conference, hosting over 7,000 Ohio BOE and school district administrators annually. Chardon Schools participates in this conference each year.
