Chardon High School senior Charlotte Jons with her OSDA District Championship in Program Oral Interpretation trophy - Feb.3, 2024
Senior Orator Advances as 4X STATE Qualifier
February 4, 2024 — Chardon High School senior CHARLOTTE JONS has once again brought pride to her school community, this time earning FIRST PLACE in the Ohio Speech and Debate Association's Program Oral Interpretation event at the 2024 Cleveland DISTRICT Tournament, advancing her to the OSDA 2024 STATE Tournament at Wooster High School March 1-2.
Charlotte, who competed in the District tournament at Olmsted Falls High School on Feb. 3, has repeatedly made Chardon history as an OSDA competitor. She is not only the District's first-ever OSDA State qualifier but has competed her way to the State tier of competition for several seasons.
CHS OSDA Coach Roediger stated, "By qualifying, she has earned the distinction of being a four-year State qualifier, and she will be part of a select group of seniors who will be recognized for this distinction at awards at the tournament in March. She is only the second student I have coached who has achieved this honor."
Coach Roediger, a Mentor High School chemistry teacher and MHS speech and debate coach, is a seasoned OSDA coach spanning over two decades of commitment to speech and debate students both in the Mentor Schools and Chardon Local Schools.
Principal Doug Murray shared that he is so proud of Charlotte and is grateful for all Coach Roediger has done to support and prepare her for success.
He added, "I cannot wait to get her on another Principal's Podcast."
In 2023, Charlotte earned the OSDA State Champion title in POI and also competed in POI at the national-level through the National Speech and Debate Association.
Best wishes to Charlotte at the 2024 State Tournament!
