Tiny Toppers Give Back to Animal Shelter

January 12, 2024 — Chardon Early Learning Center pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students and their families expressed a close-to-home appreciation last month by donating blankets, towels, dog food, and toys for Animal Charity of Ohio, Inc. in Boardman, Ohio.

This particular non-profit was chosen by the school as a thank you to the staff and volunteers who assisted Chardon High School teacher Ms. Wessels when her yellow labrador, Blanch, went missing one day over Thanksgiving Break in Mahoning County. Specifically, Blanch went missing from the scene of the auto accident in which Ms. Wessels and her dogs were involved that day.

When reached for comment on Jan. 12, Ms. Wessels stated that she was so happy to learn that something positive had come from the accident — that Tiny Toppers helped support this particular charity.

Ms. Wessels added, "Many of their (Animal Charity of Ohio's) staff and volunteers were the ones that dropped everything to help look for Blanch before learning of her passing."

In the spirit of gratitude for the shelter's efforts for a fellow Hilltopper, Tiny Toppers were indeed successful, amassing a car load of donations that were delivered during winter break to the animal shelter.

Thank you to Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Ridgeway for sharing the story of the Tiny Toppers' success.

Story shared with permission from Ms. Wessels.
