January 30, 2024 — A self-described "Hilltalker" — Chardon High School senior Charlotte Jons is back at it as an Ohio Speech and Debate Association competitor this year. Her latest achievement is a first-place finish in Program Oral Interpretation at the OSDA Solon Tournament held at Solon High School on Jan. 27.

Charlotte is a long-running, sole competitor and champion for our high school's (and previously, our middle school's) speech and debate team, with tremendous "beyond the hilltop" accomplishments that include clinching the OSDA's 2023 state champion title in POI last spring and competing at the national level last summer.

This year, Charlotte has curated a POI piece on the purpose and complexities of womanhood.

With an outstanding regular season under her belt for 2023-24- including her 1st-place finish at Solon, Charlotte now moves on to compete in the District tournament on Feb. 3, vying for a state-level qualification. Next up after that is the 2024 national-qualifying tournament.

But that's not all...

Charlotte stated, " I am also doing lots of college speech team auditions and interviews as I get ready to make a decision about my future in speech and debate/forensics at an even higher level."

Coach Amy Roediger posted to social media on Jan. 27 that she is so proud of the work Charlotte has put in and the skills she's gained.

Roediger added, "Thankful that Chardon High School has supported her as she competed for the last seven years."

Congratulations Charlotte on your ongoing success and best wishes as you "Hilltalk" your way to 2024 state and national qualifications, as well as on your pre-college journey
