Tomorrow Starts Here

Office of the Superintendent

Dear Parents and Community Members,
It is my honor and privilege to serve the Chardon Local School District as Superintendent of Schools. Last year, we finalized work around the district’s strategic plan - VISION 2020 - outlining five key vision statements and implementation strategies designed to achieve our mission, “High achievement for all students, where learning is our most important work.” Our vision statements include:
Curriculum and Instruction Meet and exceed the instructional needs of all students, equipping them for success in college and career.
Safety and Security Provide a physically and emotionally safe and secure learning environment for students, staff and community.
Resources Maximize the capacity, effectiveness and efficiency of all of our current and future resources.
Facilities Provide learning environments appropriate for all students to grow academically and socially.
Communications Communicate and collaborate effectively with our community.
The outstanding educators and support personnel in our school district focus their energies each day on implementing the strategies in our plan in order to maximize opportunities for our students. Our district’s QUALITY PROFILE captures a number of the programs and activities that are part of the culture of our school district. Welcome to the CLSD web site. This site is designed to provide helpful information to parents, students, employees, and applicants and to better inform all visitors about CLSD and our many strengths and new opportunities. You will discover facts and information about academic programs, day-to-day operations, our Board of Education, and a great deal of other information. Most importantly, I hope you will sense our genuine commitment to providing the best education possible for every child.
If you visit one of our schools, you will find that schools today are far more rigorous than they were twenty or thirty years ago. Academically, more is demanded of our students every day in order to ensure that they are college and career ready and prepared to be productive citizens. With the ever-changing nature of the world and workforce, not only must today’s graduates be proficient in core academic subjects, they need to be critical thinkers, problem solvers and effective communicators. They need global awareness, financial, economic and civic literacy. These are 21st Century Skills that are in demand for all graduates, no matter what their future holds. Our top priority is to continue to respond effectively to these changes to ensure that all students are learning at higher levels and gaining the skills they will need to compete in an economy that runs on information and demands creativity and innovation.
Although we face continued funding reductions that have led to unprecedented budget cuts in the school district, through shared commitment, thoughtful planning and a strong accountability system, we will continue our work together to build an even better educational program that will inspire all of our students to achieve at high levels.
Please take time to discover who we are, and if you still have questions, do not hesitate to contact us.

Michael P. Hanlon, Jr., Ph.D.
