CMS Updates 4/9/19

Staff Appreciation

The CMS PTO will celebrate Staff Appreciation Week at CMS during the week of April 29. Can you help donate (or solicit donations) for our annual raffle baskets? Do you have a business and could donate an item or service? We will gratefully accept all donations. Please sign up HERE.

CMS PTO will be meeting on Wednesday, 4/10 @ 6:30pm in the CMS Media Center.  In addition to regular business, officer elections for the 19-20 school year will be held.  PTO is open to any parent of a CMS student - we hope to see you there!

Box Tops

PTO will be sponsoring another Box Tops homeroom competition during the month of April! Make sure to keep saving those box tops so your child’s homeroom can win a doughnut party!

Pull Tabs for Ronald McDonald House

We are collecting pull tabs for Ronald McDonald House!  There is a collection jar in the cafeteria so your student can bring tabs from home in his or her lunchbox or drop them in during lunch. Tabs can be from pop cans, pet food, soup cans, anything!  They will be taken to Ronald McDonald House where they are sold for recycling.

Father / Daughter Dance

Thanks to Munson PTO for collaborating with us to include all current 4th and 5th grade girls at CMS to join in the father-daughter dance on Saturday, April 27!  Invitations have been sent out to all girls in these grades, and are due back to CMS on April 12. If your daughter did not receive one, please contact the main office.

Chardon Art Show

The first annual Chardon School District Juried Art Exhibit is coming soon! Every student from kindergarten to 12th grade who participates in art will have a piece displayed. This family friendly event will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2019, from 10 am-3 pm in the Chardon High School cafe and gym.

Free hands on activities will be available during this open house including 3d pens, High school student caricatures, pottery wheel demonstrations and more! Free refreshments are also available. Every student who attends will get a raffle ticket to enter for amazing prizes! So, bring your family to this fun and amazing free event!  Click HERE for more information.

Chardon Goes to the Musicals

"HERE is the flier for the last two shows of this school year - Dear Evan Hansen & Come From Away.  Based on the continued enthusiastic response, Chardon Goes to the Musicals has secured tickets for shows in the 2019-2020 season as well.  Please contact Elizabeth Fullerman ( for more details; or, watch for details in the fall.

All 80 tickets for Lion King are sold out.  Thank you to those families who purchased.

As a reminder, these tickets are not a fundraiser, simply an easy way for community members to have access to Playhouse Square, the second largest theater district, only to Broadway."

Field Trip Scholarships Fundraising Opportunities

Mrs. Kate Breen has coordinated a second fundraising opportunity that will go towards our trip scholarship fund.  The second opportunity is Saturday, April 13 at 1:30. If you've always wanted to give boxing a try, now is your chance! :) Title Boxing Club is offering a free class at its Mentor location with 100% of the donations directed to the scholarship fund.  If this is something you're interested in, please contact so the club can plan accordingly.  This is open to anyone over the age of 10!!!

The Ohio AIR tests, while only one data point in time, are the most public measure of schools’ effectiveness and student learning.  We ask that you please do everything possible to be sure that your child is in attendance on the following days:

  • April 16 & 17:  ELA (all grades)

  • April 24 & 25:  5th Grade Science

  • May 1 & 2:  Math (all grades)

At the beginning of the year, all students were provided earbuds and ODE-approved calculators for students in grades 6, 7 and those taking 5th grade accelerated math.  Recently we have noticed that many students do not have these items with them in class. Please talk with your child and make sure that they have earbuds / headphones and an approved calculator daily in all classes.
